| Get the HealthCare You Deserve ... | |
| ...is the companion program to Hygeia® http://hygeia.org and a new program of the Hygeia Foundation, Inc. It
is intended to improve disparities in access to women and children's health care
services. Get...Care enables all women and children in need of women's, maternal and child
health services to find and be personally introduced to these services with respect,
dignity and advocacy.Over 43 million people in the
United States alone lack access to primary health care. Infant mortality rates, one of the most widely used
indicators in international comparisons to judge the effect on human health of general
social, economic, and technological conditions, are an important indicator of the health
of both pregnant women and newborns. Infant mortality rates are substantially higher in
medically under-served communities. Infant and
neonatal mortality is often closely associated with prematurity, low birth weight and
congenital anomalies. This program is
addressing disparities in access to womens health care, antenatal health care and
post-natal pediatric care in an effort to reduce disparate rates of perinatal
losses, premature births, and infant deaths inherent in vulnerable and disenfranchised
populations. Among these disparities is a lack of awareness of local healthcare facilities
offering maternal and child health care services including prenatal care, a lack of
understanding of the need for pre-natal care, albeit early care and the late diagnosis,
recognition and acceptance of ones pregnancy. Additionally, this disenfranchised
subset of the population many times exhibits overwhelming denial and shame, diminished
self worth and dignity and a feeling of isolation without a place or professional to turn
to for immediate care, counseling and advocacy. These families must enter and be
embraced by our healthcare system. The Hygeia Foundation, Inc. provides not only a
significant awareness to the need for pre-conception care, inter-conception care, pre and
post-natal pediatric care, but physician-led personal advocacy and direction specifically
targeted for this population at risk.
